Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council NSW (AH&MRC)

Development of course material to support the establishment of a bespoke National Leadership and Management program for Aboriginal Health Workers

Key achievements:

  • Creation of an International Partnership with the Canadian First National Health Managers Association and the AH&MRC NSW.
  • Development of 14 Units of study for a Diploma of Leadership and Management for First National Peoples.
  • Development of partnership with the Australasian College of Health Service Managers to support the creation of an Australian First Nations Health Service Managers Association.

NSW Department of Premier & Cabinet

Far South Coast NSW Health & Community Services Workforce Strategy.

This project was commissioned by the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet. The project came about due to a desire to connect youth, the unemployed, and  Aboriginal people (the cohort-of-opportunity) with the opportunities that are available in the fastest-growing employment sector on the Far South Coast – the Health and Community Support Services Sector which includes the ageing, disability, home care services, health and primary care including private allied health services (the Sector). For this Strategy, the Far South Coast (FSC) is the local government area (LGAs) of Bega and Eurobodalla.

The Plan of Action was developed to guide the work of the Aboriginal Advisory Committee who have a role too:

  • To advise Council.
  • To engage and consult the Aboriginal communities.
  • To increase knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal history and culture.
  • To act as a conduit for information exchange between Council and the Aboriginal community.
  • To build strong links between Shoalhaven City Council and Aboriginal communities.

To work together with each other and with Council in the spirit of trust and mutual respect to build a culturally safe environment where Aboriginal voices are heard, and cultural heritage is respected
